Platform are a top 10 Biggest Builder once again

The group has regained its status as one of the top 10 Biggest Builders in the sector, following the publishing of Inside Housing's annual survey.

Judged on many different figures from the last 12 months, Platform now sits in 8th position when compared with associations from up and down the country, having come in 11th a year ago.

As you can imagine, various things affected most of the sector's ability to develop new homes in the last 12 months from the pandemic to Brexit and the resulting shortages in materials and labour.

Despite that, we still managed an impressive 1,171 completions over the year taking our total stock to 47,119. Of those homes developed last year, we provided 478 for affordable rent and 441 were for shared ownership.

Upon seeing the results of the survey and where it places us within the sector, Chief Executive Elizabeth Froude said,

"We are really please to yet again be a top 10 house builder for our sector, despite the many challenges created by Covid. Our team have pushed hard to deliver a programme focussed on social and affordable new homes for our residents and our commitments as a Strategic Partner, as well as ensuring our pipeline for the coming years."

As well as assessing the previous 12 months, the survey looks at which associations are predicting the most completions in the next 12 months and further ahead. We've estimated we'll complete 1,140 in the next year, with 1,087 on site, already secured.

Executive Director of Growth and Development Gerraint Oakley is confident we can deliver on our ambition,

"We are looking to increase our completions beyond those figures and we have a number of acquisitions taking place that will significantly increase on what we have reported so far. We are also actively looking at new land opportunities and joint venture partners to further increase our total completions not just for the next 12 months but over the next five years.

As we work towards more sustainable building targets, our regeneration strategy will play an even bigger part on what the directorate achieves over the next few years. Director of Regeneration Steve Eaves said,

“Several regeneration programmes will contribute to next year's delivery targets. We're redeveloping under used land and garage sites, plus we're repurposing and redeveloping existing, low demand housing, with high need supported and affordable housing. We're also working on a number of collaborative projects with stakeholders to deliver high social impact, mixed tenure, brownfield projects.”

Only four other associations have built more homes for low cost ownership that Platform, showing the group's commitment to this tenure as solution to the housing crisis. New Homes Delivery Director Lisa Johnson said,

"Providing a mixed tenure, multi generational approach to our developments is key to creating sustainable communities. Platform have a range of home ownership products within its development portfolio that not only allow our customers to access the housing market but support the delivery of affordable rent and social rent in areas where viability can be challenging.  The overall balance of tenures adds to the financial viability of the Group and allows profits to be reinvested in its social objectives.”

The group continues to expand this summer, with work beginning on a 200 home, mixed tenure development at Milestone Road in Carterton, Oxfordshire. Elsehwhere, our first development in the Forest of Dean begins with works starting at Watery Lane in Newent, Gloucestershire.
