Social Sustainability

At Platform, sustainability is about more than protecting the environment. It is also about creating lasting, positive outcomes for our customers, colleagues and communities.

We understand the important role we play in supporting thriving communities, providing safe and good-quality homes, helping customers facing challenges and creating opportunities for people to have their say.

Our approach to social sustainability focuses on four areas:

Together, these help us make sure that the wider social impact we create is considered alongside our environmental and economic responsibilities.

Creating Social Value

We want the investment we make to deliver wider benefits for the people and places we serve. Our goal is to create measurable social, environmental and economic benefits that improve outcomes for customers and communities, with an ambition to generate £250 million in social return on investment over the four years to 2030.

Creating social value through our supply chain

We use our purchasing power to create benefits that go beyond the goods and services we buy. Through our Social Value Framework, we build social value into procurement and work with contractors and suppliers to deliver additional benefits for our customers and communities.

Our approach focuses on three priorities:

Suppliers can make commitments including employment and training opportunities, volunteering, community investment and sharing skills or resources.

Turning social value commitments into local action

We use Match My Project to help turn supplier social value commitments into local action. The platform connects our contractors and suppliers with community organisations that need support, helping to direct funding, resources, skills and volunteering to projects that can make a real difference. It helps us ensure that the social value generated through our contracts responds to real needs identified within our communities.

Home Quality

Providing homes that are safe, secure and well maintained is fundamental to our social purpose. We closely monitor the condition and safety of our homes, including compliance with gas, fire, electrical, asbestos, legionella and lift safety requirements. At the end of 2025/26, 99% of our homes met the Decent Homes Standard, with homes that did not meet the standard either rectified or scheduled for work through our capital programmes.

Supporting Customers and Communities

A secure home is an important foundation for people's wellbeing, but we know our role doesn't stop at providing homes. We provide practical support to help customers maintain stability and security, particularly where people are experiencing financial hardship or other challenges.

This includes our Customer Wellbeing Fund, which supports customers with costs such as food, school uniforms, energy and utilities, alongside specialist support from our Successful Tenancies team. We also provide grants of up to £5,000 for projects creating positive change within Platform communities.
