We will bring together more than 30 organisations for free summer activity days in Worcester

Young people and families across Worcester are being invited to enjoy two free community events this summer, bringing together more than 30 organisations offering activities, advice and opportunities during the school holidays. 

We are organising the events in partnership with Worcester City Council, PAL Fitness and Play Worcester, building on the success of last year’s event to create two afternoons packed with sport, music, entertainment and information about local youth services. 

The first event will take place on Thursday 30 July at Warndon Playing Field, followed by a second on Thursday 20 August at Ronkswood Playing Field, with both events running from 1.00pm until 4.00pm. 

Around 35 local organisations will be attending, giving young people the opportunity to discover clubs, activities and support available in their community.  Visitors can enjoy a range of free activities, including sports, drumming workshops, first aid demonstrations, emergency service displays and wellbeing activities, while learning more about volunteering, health services and community organisations. 

Families eligible for the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme will also be able to enjoy a free lunch, funded through HAF. 

Paul Edwards, our Community Engagement Officer said: “We introduced these events last year after the long running school safety days came to an end, and we wanted to make sure there was still something positive for young people to look forward to during the summer holidays. 

“They’re about much more than having a fun afternoon. They’re a chance for young people and families to discover everything that’s available locally, whether that’s sports clubs, volunteering opportunities, health advice or community sport. 

“We’re incredibly grateful to all of our partners for getting involved. Bringing together so many organisations in one place makes it much easier for families to see what’s on offer and helps young people build new interests, confidence and friendships.” 

Among the organisations taking part are Worcester City Council, Worcester Warriors Foundation, Worcester City Football Club, Worcestershire County Cricket, Worcester Wolves, the Fire and Rescue Service, NHS partners, Bike Worcester, Action for Children, the Wildlife Trust, Street Pastors and many more community groups and charities working across the city. 

The events are free to attend and open to everyone, with activities aimed at children and young people of all ages.
