We have launched our new Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2026-2028, setting out our roadmap for creating lasting positive impacts for customers, communities and the environment.

The strategy outlines how we will respond to some of the most significant environmental challenges facing society, including climate change, biodiversity loss and resource efficiency, while embedding sustainability into decision making across every part of our organisation.

Central to the strategy is our commitment to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions across our value chain by 2050.  To support this ambition, we have set interim emission reduction targets and a commitment to continue externally validating our Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions, ensuring transparent reporting and accountability.  As part of the strategy, we will also continue to increase climate awareness across the organisation, ensuring colleagues have the knowledge and skills needed to support our environmental ambitions.

Creating more sustainable homes is a key priority for us and the strategy sets out our commitment to improving the energy efficiency of homes by 2030.  It also sets out plans to reduce waste and resource consumption, enhance biodiversity and work closely with suppliers and partners to create positive environmental outcomes.

The strategy builds on progress we have already made in improving the sustainability of our homes and operations, our investment in low carbon technologies and our expansion of our electric vehicle fleet.

Shaped through collaboration with customers, colleagues and stakeholders, the strategy reflects the priorities of the communities we serve.

Lianne Taylor, our Director of Sustainability said: “The challenges posed by climate change and biodiversity loss mean organisations like ours have an important role to play in creating positive environmental outcomes for future generations.

“This strategy sets out how we’ll do that.  It provides a clear framework for action, from improving the energy efficiency of our homes and reducing emissions to protecting and enhancing nature and working with our partners to create more sustainable communities.

“Sustainability isn’t something that sits alongside our business, it’s integral to how we make decisions, invest in our homes and support our customers.  By working together with colleagues, customers and partners, we can create lasting positive impacts for the communities we serve.”

The launch of the strategy coincides with our first Sustainability Week, providing colleagues with opportunities to learn more about our environmental ambitions and how they can contribute.  Activities throughout the week include the launch of a new sustainability hub on our intranet, case studies highlighting successful community initiatives, and Lunch and Learn sessions exploring the strategy and its commitments in more detail.
