Fast. Fierce. Fatal. – Lithium-Ion Battery Safety for Everyday Devices

Lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we use every day—e-bikes, e-scooters, phones, laptops, and even vapes. But fires linked to these batteries are rising fast.  In fact, there’s been a 93% increase in lithium-ion battery fires in the last two years, with 1,330 incidents reported in 2024 alone.* 

These fires can be Fast, Fierce & Fatal. Platform urges everyone to buy, charge, and store devices safely. 

Why Lithium-Ion Battery Safety Matters 

  • Fires can start suddenly and spread quickly.
  • Toxic gases and explosions pose serious risks.
  • Unsafe charging or poor-quality products increase danger. 

Top Safety Tips 

  • Buy smart: Always purchase devices and chargers from trusted retailers.
  • Use the correct charger: Never leave batteries on charge overnight.
  • Charge safely: On a hard, flat surface, away from anything that could burn.
  • Keep escape routes clear: Never charge in hallways or on stairs.
  • Recycle responsibly: Never bin batteries—take them to proper recycling points. 

Spot the Warning Signs 

Stop using your battery immediately if you notice: 

  • Excessive heat
  • Swelling or leaks
  • Strange smells or sounds
  • Smoke or visible fire
