A weekly play group is being held at Westlands Community Centre in Droitwich to give families and children somewhere to come together thanks to Community Chest funding of £1,500 from Platform Housing Group.

The play group is run by the National Lottery funded project group Moving Forward on Westlands and focuses on providing age-appropriate themed play for local children such as the Kings Coronation, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Spring, Bee Day and more.

The funding has enabled Play leaders to provide a safe environment for parents and children which has seen attendance increase. More recently Play leaders have taken on active roles within the planning process and the benefits of this can be seen in the children’s confidence and interaction.

Charlotte McCall, Moving Forward project administrator said; “We have seen amazing growth within the playgroup, with support from Moving Forward the leaders have been able to create an entertaining space for the young children within their care.”

Megan, a parent who attends the group said; “Being a first-time mum can seem daunting at times, but Westlands playgroup has given me the chance to meet other parents in the community who have been a good support. Both me and my child have made new friends since coming.”

Marion Duffy, Platform Housing Group’s Chief Operations Officer said, “It’s great to know that we are able to help our local communities and the community chest funding offers that opportunity. Groups such as this are a fantastic way to support so many when and where it is needed.”

Platform customers and local charities, clubs and other not-for-profit organisations can apply for Community Chest Funding if their work or project directly benefits local Platform customers. All applications are assessed against specific eligibility criteria by customers who sit on their Customer Experience Panel.
