As Platform Housing Group proudly supports National Apprenticeship Week 2026, the organisation is highlighting the inspiring career journey of 30‑year‑old Joe Henshaw — who has progressed from an apprentice electrician to Service Manager for Platform’s Electrical QS team, just twelve years after joining the business.

Joe began his career as one of only three apprentices accepted into Platform at the time. Since then, he has rapidly built his technical expertise, qualifications and leadership experience, rising to become a Qualified Supervisor before stepping up to lead the organisation’s team of electrical supervisors.

“Breaking into the trade was tough,” Joe recalls. “Apprenticeships were competitive even then, and they’re even more so now. I just wanted to be a good electrician — but Platform gave me the opportunities, support and confidence to grow far beyond that.”

Joe’s contribution to Platform has been significant. In 2025, just a year after becoming a Qualified Supervisor, he earned national recognition with a nomination for the ASCP Rising Star Award.

He has also played a pivotal role in modernising the electrical service — moving inspections from paper‑based processes to digital systems that have boosted speed, accuracy and efficiency.

Alongside this, Joe leads regular electrical team meetings, delivers Toolbox Talks and keeps colleagues updated on sector changes to ensure high levels of quality, safety and compliance.

Phil Trickett, Head of Heating and Compliance at Platform Housing Group, said:

“Joe is a perfect example of how talent, when supported and nurtured, can flourish. He leads with integrity, brings a strong technical mindset to everything he does and genuinely cares about doing right by both our customers and his colleagues. He’s already achieved so much, and he’s only just getting started.”

Now responsible for leading and developing the team of Qualifying Supervisors, Joe is committed to supporting the next generation of talent — just as others supported him. His long‑term ambition is to progress into a Head of Service or Director‑level role in Compliance.

Joe’s story highlights the impact of investing in people and the powerful outcomes that can be achieved when talent is recognised, supported and empowered.

As National Apprenticeship Week shines a light on the value of apprenticeships across the country, Joe’s journey stands as a testament to what is possible when opportunities meet ambition.
