How do I pay for my heat?
There are two ways you may pay for heat from a Platform heat network.
- If your home has a heat meter, you pay based on how much heat you use.
- If your home does not have a heat meter, you currently pay for your heat through your service charges.
The table below explains how each type of payment works.
Billing and Costs | |
|---|---|
| Heat Network Metered Customers (homes fitted with heat meters) | Heat Network Unmetered Customers |
| All other sites/homes |
| Heat used in each home is measured in kWh via heat meter. | You will currently be paying for your heat supply via your service charges. |
| Your heating bill will be based on the amount of energy you use, plus a fixed standing charge. Platform set a heat energy tariff in pence per kWh and a standing charge. | Communal service charges are the amounts you pay for communal or shared services in your building and, if applicable, the surrounding area. |
| Customers pay for heat used via a Pay-as-you-go system. | Communal service charges are based on anticipated costs, and you only pay for the services you receive. |
| Our appointed metering and billing provider Sycous take payments and manage customer accounts. | Platform Housing will write to you each February confirming your new rent starting from April, along with any communal service charges. |
If you have a heat meter
If your home has a heat meter, it records how much heat you use for your heating and hot water. The amount you use is measured in kilowatt hours (kWh).
You pay for the heat you use, based on your heat tariff, as well as a standing charge. Your standing charge helps cover the cost of providing and maintaining your heat supply.
Our metering and billing provider, Sycous, manages your heat meter, heat account and payments on behalf of Platform. You can also contact Sycous if you have a question about your account or meter.
Manage your heat account with Sycous
If you have a heat meter, Sycous manages your heat account on behalf of Platform. Through mySycous, you can check your balance, make payments or top up, and get help with your meter. You should also tell Sycous if you are moving home, so they can close your account and confirm any final payment or credit.
