New for 2026, the Green Impact Award celebrates people and groups who are making a positive difference for the environment in their local community. It recognises efforts to protect nature, reduce waste, look after green spaces and help others live in a more sustainable way.

This award is for those who take action to reduce their impact on the planet and encourage others to do the same.

Whether it’s organising community clean-ups, planting trees, saving energy or supporting recycling and wildlife projects, the Green Impact Award shines a light on people whose work is helping create cleaner, greener and healthier neighbourhoods.

Newtown Green Group in Worcester won the first Green Impact Award at the 2026 Community Heroes Awards, a new category celebrating environmental action. 

Over 10 years, volunteers have transformed Newtown Green from a neglected space into a welcoming place for people and wildlife, with habitats, accessible paths, Trev’s Orchard, litter picks, walks and community events that bring neighbours together and protect their shared local environment.
