This award recognises someone who has gone above and beyond to create a more inclusive, respectful and diverse community. It celebrates people or groups who have helped others feel valued and welcome regardless of their background, identity or experience.
This could be through community activities, support networks, advocacy, cultural events, or initiatives that reduce barriers and build understanding between different groups.
Celebrating Diversity Award Winner 2026
Sue Stevenson, founder of the Butterfly Foundation in Mablethorpe, won the first Celebrating Diversity Award at the 2026 Community Heroes Awards, a new category recognising inclusion. Sue has created a safe, welcoming place where children, young people and families can find support, build confidence and feel valued. Through activities, wellbeing support and community connection, the Butterfly Foundation helps people know they are not alone locally.
