We supported an apprenticeship careers event in Boston

A major careers event in Lincolnshire has inspired dozens of young people to think about their futures, thanks to support from our Community Chest fund.

Skegness Academy successfully applied for support through our Community Chest, a dedicated fund available to our customers, local charities, clubs and other not-for-profit organisations.  The fund supports projects that directly benefit our customers, with all applications reviewed by members of our Customer Voice Panel against clear eligibility criteria.

The funding ensured that students from the Academy were able to attend the event by funding two return coaches to the event.

The event – entitled Future Fest 2025 – was held at Boston College’s Peter Paine Performance Centre, bringing together secondary schools and sixth forms across South Holland, Boston and East Lindsey.  Students aged between 14 and 18 – including those in mainstream education, alternative provision and SEND settings – had the chance to meet with employers, further education providers and training organisations.

We were one of three housing associations that attended, showcasing the wide range of apprenticeship opportunities available across our organisation, from plumbing and electrical to IT, administration, procurement and payroll.

One of our apprentices Caitlin Morley joined the team on the stand to speak directly with students about her own apprenticeship journey.  She shared examples of her work and answered questions from teachers, careers advisers and young people.

In total, more than 60 students visited our stand, many of whom were undecided about their post GCSE plans.  The team were able to explain how different career interests could align with apprenticeship routes and future jobs in housing and beyond.

The event was organised by The South and East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership.

Samantha Smith, our Community Engagement Officer said: “This was a fantastic event to be part of.  The mix of schools and students gave us a brilliant opportunity to talk about the variety of apprenticeships and career pathways we can offer.  Hearing directly from one of our apprentices, Caitlin, really brought it to life for young people and teachers alike.  We’re proud to support events like this through our Community Chest as they have such a direct impact on raising aspirations and opening doors for the next generation.”

Liz King, Investment and Skills Officer at Boston Borough and East Lindsey District Councils said: “The engagement from employers like Platform makes a real difference to the students who attended.  The chance to have meaningful conversations with professionals helps young people make informed decisions about their futures.”

Following positive feedback, we have already committed to returning to next year’s event with even more interactive activities to engage students.
