We are celebrating West Midlands success at the RHS It’s Your Neighbourhood awards
Community pride was in full bloom this autumn as our communal gardens across the West Midlands were recognised at the RHS Heart of England It’s Your Neighbourhood Awards, held at The Three Counties Showground in Malvern.
The event, which celebrates local community gardening projects that make a real difference to their neighbourhoods, saw four of our schemes honoured for their dedication, teamwork and horticultural creativity.
This year’s results were outstanding:
- Colbourne Court, Stechford – Level 5 Outstanding;
- Dawberry Corner Community Garden, Kings Heath – Level 5 Outstanding;
- Wellington Court Jubilee Garden, Harborne – Level 4 Thriving;
- Stechford Village Green, Stechford – Level 4 Thriving.
The result mark a fantastic achievement for residents and volunteers, building on last year’s success when two groups represented us in the competition.
Debbie Jones, our Community Engagement Officer said: “We’re incredibly proud of everyone involved in our West Midlands gardens. The passion, teamwork and pride shown by residents really shine through in these results. To see two schemes achieve the top Level 5 Outstanding rating is fantastic, and the progress made at Wellington Court and Stechford Village Green shows how these spaces continue to grow year after year. These awards celebrate community spirit at its best.”
The It’s Your Neighbourhood initiative forms part of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom campaign and recognises the vital role that volunteers play in improving shared green spaces. Entries are judged on three core themes, community participation, environmental responsibility and horticultural achievement.
We have been supporting residents to take part in the scheme for more than a decade, helping communities across the region to create greener, more welcoming places to live.
