Six new apprentices join our Digital Futures Academy Programme
Six talented individuals have begun their journey with our Digital Futures Academy, an innovative apprenticeship programme designed to nurture digital and data technology talent from all walks of life.
Launched in November 2024, with applications going live in February 2025, the programme invited huge interest from young people. More than 150 applications were received, with 35 chosen to attend the assessment days, with the final six being offered the apprenticeships.
The six new apprentices are Ismail Farah from Leicester, James Pearson from Droitwich, Harvey Bass from Worcester, Matthew Elliot from Solihull, Latisha Bailey and Mashood Khan from Birmingham.
The programme offers a fresh start for those who may not wish to follow the traditional university route, including neurodiverse individuals, those seeking a career change to pursue their passion for technology, and those who prefer to learn and apply their knowledge immediately in the workplace. Its overarching mission is to equip apprentices with in-demand digital skills, while supporting the transformation of customer experiences across the social housing sector.
The Digital Futures Academy continues to lead the way in demonstrating how inclusive recruitment and accessible training pathways can help build the digital workforce of the future. The six new apprentices will be working across key digital and data functions, gaining hands-on experience while contributing to meaningful work that positively impacts residents and communities.
John Wegulin, Chair of our Board said: "We are incredibly proud to welcome the new apprentices. The Digital Futures Academy reflects our commitment to creating meaningful, long-term careers for people who might otherwise be overlooked in the tech sector. By investing in individuals with potential and passion, regardless of background, we're not only building digital capability—we’re fostering real social impact."
Jon Cocker, our Chief Information Officer said: "Welcoming this new group of apprentices is a proud moment for us. The Digital Futures Academy is about more than skills development—it's about creating a culture of innovation and inclusion. These apprentices bring fresh perspectives, which is what we need to keep improving services for our customers."
As technology continues to reshape the way housing services are delivered, the Digital Futures Academy stands as a model for how inclusive talent development can drive both innovation and impact. By equipping individuals with the tools to succeed in digital roles, the programme is not only investing in people, it’s helping to future-proof the social housing sector for years to come.
