'Selfless spirit’ of Malvern resident honoured in our Community Heroes Awards 2025
It was in recognition of of her unwavering dedication, tireless volunteering, and deeply selfless spirit that we were delighted to present her with the Going the Extra Mile Award at this years Community Heroes Awards.
She also helps run a children’s club at the church during school holidays. The club offers a safe and welcoming space for children to enjoy crafts, games, and hearty meals - giving them the chance to socialise, have fun, and take a break from screen time. Brenda also organises trips and away days for Platform customers, helping create joyful and long-lasting memories, whilst strengthening community connections.
At 72 years old, when many might be slowing down, Brenda has taken on a bold new challenge by applying to become a foster carer again. She has even moved to a two-bedroom home to support this goal, showing incredible resilience and a heartfelt commitment to supporting children who need a nurturing place to call home.
Nicholas Richardson, Community Engagement Officer at Platform Housing Group said: “Brenda’s energy and dedication are unmatched. Whether she’s running a children’s club or helping at a community event, she approaches everything with positivity. She is always willing to learn, recently borrowing a computer
from Platform to further her digital skills, which reflects her commitment to personal growth and her desire to serve her community. Brenda is a true asset to Malvern.”
Brenda’s kindness extends beyond the organisations she works with. A respected and much-loved figure in her community she can often be found litter picking, cooking meals for neighbours, or supporting people through difficult times. Her belief in the power of community and compassion has had a ripple effect, inspiring others to follow her lead.
Marion Duffy, Chief Operations Officer at Platform Housing Group, said: “Brenda exemplifies the very essence of our Going the Extra Mile Award. Her selflessness, drive to make others feel valued and willingness to embrace new challenges are truly inspiring. We are so proud to recognise her exceptional contributions to Malvern and beyond.”
Jason Bowden from Hardyman, who sponsored the award said: “We assist Platform Housing in executing their repair and maintenance tasks, collaborating with various surveyors to ensure a high quality of work that positively impacts the lives of residents. Additionally, we are committed to contributing to the community by facilitating social events and are delighted to have been able to sponsor Platform’s Going the Extra Mile Award.”
