Praise from National Housing Federation for large Octopus Zero Bills scheme

One of our developments of affordable housing featuring Zero Bills homes has been praised by the National Housing Federation.
The Federation’s Chief Executive Kate Henderson visited our Trentside site, part of Keepmoat’s Beeston Canalside in Nottingham where 82 of the 319 homes will pay nothing for their home energy for 5 years thanks to Octopus Energy’s world first Zero Bills tariff.
Launched in 2022, Octopus’ Zero Bills lets customers move into homes packed with cutting edge green tech - including a heat pump, a battery and solar panels - with no home energy bills for up to 10 years*
Looking around one of the homes ahead of handovers to new residents, Kate said: “It was inspiring to see the approach Platform Housing has taken at Beeston Canalside, an excellent example of a successful regeneration scheme with both sustainability and affordability at its heart.
“Beeston Canalside demonstrates both how these kinds of partnerships can effectively deliver homes with clean heat, and also how sustainable technologies have direct and significant benefits for residents, who’ll enjoy at least five years of zero energy bills.”
Octopus' collaboration with us is the largest installation of Zero Bills homes at an affordable development to date.
Elizabeth Froude, our Group Chief Executive said: “I am so proud to see this place come to life; the power of good partnerships make it a place we can all be proud of and it is a credit to all those involved. It took a lot of hard work and a hard push at times to maintain the quality and energy standards we required and I thank both Octopus and Keepmoat for working so hard alongside us in making this happen. This is a development with more stories to come in the future thanks to the vision aspired to by the original landowner Boots.”
Nigel Banks, Zero Bills Director at Octopus Energy said: “Zero Bills homes are helping make truly affordable low carbon living a reality. Working with innovative housing associations like Platform, we’re showing that cutting edge green tech can deliver comfort, sustainability and zero home energy bills for residents across the country.”
We will continue to take handovers of the Zero Bills homes over the next few months and anticipate work on the site to be completed in the summer of 2029.
Octopus Energy aims to deliver 100,000 Zero Bills homes by 2030 and has already rolled out the initiative in Germany and New Zealand, as well as the UK.
So far, it has approved Zero Bills eligibility for more than 5,000 homes through partnerships with leading developers, covering affordable and private rent, plus private and shared ownership properties.
*Please note that Octopus’ Zero Bills tariff guarantee does not include EV charging costs. EV charging is billed separately.
