Our Community Chest helps keep Trusthorpe residents warm and connected

Trusthorpe Village Hall in Lincolnshire has received a grant from our Community Chest fund to support its much loved Warm Space Place project.
The initiative applied to our Community Chest, a funding pot for our customers and local charities, clubs and other not-for-profit organisations for any projects directly benefitting our customers; all applications are assessed against specific eligibility criteria by customers who sit on our Customer Voice Panel.
The project – which first opened its doors in November 2022 – has become a lifeline for local residents, offering a safe, welcoming environment where people can enjoy warmth, food and friendship. Originally set to run only through the winter months, high demand has seen the project expand, with coffee and chat sessions now offered throughout spring, summer and autumn.
More than 50 residents regularly access the Warm Space, with the project providing hot lunches, social interaction and vital support.
The Community Chest grant will help cover rising energy costs, purchase essential kitchen equipment such as microwaves and a freezer, and provide additional supplies including crockery and cutlery. It will also allow organisers to offer extras such as hot water bottles, gloves and scarves to those most in need.
Kim Parrinder, Secretary at Trusthorpe Village Hall Warm Space said: “We never expected the Warm Space to have such a huge impact when we first opened but the demand has been incredible. For many of our residents, it’s about so much more than warmth and food, it’s the friendships, the laughter and the chance to feel part of something. Thanks to Platform’s Community Chest, we can continue making a real difference in people’s lives.”
The project is sustained by the dedication of local volunteers, fundraising efforts such as raffles and book sales and generous donations from the community, local businesses and grants.
Darren Dodds, our Community Engagement Officer said: "Trusthorpe’s Warm Space is a shining example of how communities can come together to tackle loneliness and isolation. We’re proud that the Community Chest can help support the team to keep this vital service running for local people.”
Our Community Chest provides grants of up to £5000 for customer led projects that promote inclusion, wellbeing and stronger communities.
