One of our retirement villages is celebrating 20 years since it first opened.

Elizabeth Court in Louth, Lincolnshire officially opened in 2005 offering 40 apartments in the historic market town and has provided homes, support and social interaction for many residents over the years. Residents were joined by families, partner agencies and the Mayor of Louth as they enjoyed live music from local band Trakbak, nostalgia images and decorating pebbles that will be placed in the gardens.

Last year saw a major refurbishment over the three floors with new corridor carpeting, hard flooring in the entrance, all communal area furniture and soft furnishings replaced, colour coded walls and doors on each floor level to help residents recognise their floor and apartment plus open assist doors for residents with mobility issues.

Long term resident 88-year-old Jackie Robinson has been living at Elizabeth Court for 19 years. Originally from Singapore, she moved to the UK in 1955, first to Peterborough but then moving to Louth. Jackie initially moved into Elizabeth Court with her terminally ill husband Keith who sadly passed away, but she continues to get involved with as much as possible helping her feel connected and preventing isolation.

Jackie said: “I love it here! I can enjoy the activities that are regularly held here but I can also have my own time. I like that it’s close to town and bus routes and my daughters can visit and stay.”

Our Retirement Housing Officer Donna Koss has been the welcoming face since the day it opened and is committed to the care and welfare of all the residents. To prevent isolation and ensure residents have a social connection, a variety of weekly activities are held in the communal areas giving opportunities to improve mental health and the chance to see a friendly face.

The retirement village has a lounge, garden room, a hairdressing salon and gardens providing not only a safe environment but also a lifestyle. The Peppercorn Cafe provides hot food, refreshments and drinks and is open to the public.

Our Director of New Customers and Specialist Housing, Sarah Sutton said: “It’s humbling to see the positive impact our retirement housing has on customers and their families. We’re proud to celebrate the longevity of Elizabeth Court in the local area with thanks to the team for their hard work of this achievement.”
