One of our colleagues has been shortlisted for a national Comms Hero Award

We are celebrating the recognition of one of our rising stars, Gurinder Chahal who has been shortlisted for the prestigious Comms Hero of the Year award as part of the 2025 commsHERO Awards.
Known affectionately as Grin by colleagues, Gurinder’s journey from administrative support to creative communicator has been nothing short of inspirational. Her nomination reflects her outstanding commitment to learning, innovation and storytelling, all of which have made a significant impact on our communications work and wider engagement with customer and communities.
Initially joining the corporate communications team in a support role, Gurinder’s sharp eye for detail and proactive nature quickly stood out. Over the past year, she has stepped confidently into a more creative role, producing engaging campaigns, learning new digital tools and completing the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Foundation course.
Claire Gough, one of our Senior Communications Business Partners said: “Grin embodies everything you want in a modern communicator, embracing change and always seeking new ideas and opportunities. She brings a fresh perspective that drives continuous improvement, ensuring we connect more effectively with both customers and colleagues. Her thoughtful approach and openness to change make her a true asset in delivering better more meaningful communication.”
Among Gurinder’s standout contributions is her leadership of the Digital Futures Academy campaign, which opened up opportunities in tech for young people, particularly those who are neurodiverse or have faced barriers in education. From rewriting messaging to leading on press, social media and tone of voice, her work helped generate more than 150 applications and fill six new roles.
Gurinder also developed and produced a driver facing explainer video for our new fleet app, tailoring content specifically to meet the needs of busy frontline colleagues. The video has been so well received that the external supplier requested to use it in its own national marketing.
Her achievements reflect the very essence of the commsHERO Awards, which celebrate those in the communications world who show not only creativity and capability, but also community spirit, resilience and heart.
Winners of the 2025 commsHERO Awards will be announced on 21 October at the annual event in Manchester.
