Three retirement living schemes in Worcester are providing a boost to residents’ health and wellbeing this summer, thanks to a new programme of balance and exercise classes supported by Worcestershire County Council’s Public Health team.

Weekly sessions are now being held at Himbleton House, Chelmsford Court and St Clements Close.

The sessions are delivered by PAL – Purposeful Active Living - a charity that specialises in inclusive physical activity and wellbeing.

“It’s been fantastic to see how quickly residents have embraced the classes,” said Kieran Franks, Development Manager at PAL.  “We’ve already received great feedback from participants, instructors and staff, showing improved confidence, mobility and above all, enjoyment.  This is a great example of partnership working, to enhance the lives of older adults.”

The initiative is the latest in a series of projects we are delivering to support active ageing and reduce isolation across our retirement living communities.

Paul Edwards, our Community Engagement Officer said: “These classes are a brilliant example of listening to what our customers want and then working with partners to make them happen.  It’s about more than exercise, it’s about confidence, connection and keeping active in later life.”

The sessions are open to all residents living in the three schemes.
