Residents in Wolverley are set to benefit from a new programme of uplifting musical afternoons, thanks to funding from our Community Chest.

The Wolverley Ladies Fellowship applied to our Community Chest, a funding pot for our customers and local charities, clubs and other not-for-profit organisations for any projects directly benefitting our customers; all applications are assessed against specific eligibility criteria by customers who sit on our Customer Voice Panel.

The club has been awarded a grant to support a year long calendar of on site activities held in the communal room of retirement housing at Knight Court.  Designed to tackle loneliness and promote wellbeing, the monthly events will feature professional musicians and light refreshments in a friendly, accessible setting.

The group – led by our customer Christine Summers – is passionate about bringing people together.

She said: “It’s generally accepted that music makes the heart sing.  So what better way to combat isolation and improve wellbeing than with a pleasant afternoon of music in a familiar and safe environment, whatever the weather might throw at us!”

With 29 flats at Knight Court and additional interest from the wider neighbourhood, the events are expected to bring together around 50 residents over the course of the year.  Posters and word of mouth have already generated positive responses from the community.

The grant will contribute towards the cost of performers and refreshments for 11 planned sessions.  The initiative hopes not only to strengthen local friendships but also raise awareness of our wider services and support.

Nick Richardson, our Community Engagement Officer said: “These sorts of initiatives are a fantastic way to bring people together in a way that feels fun, welcoming and supportive.  The work being done at Knight Court shows how small grants can make a big impact in the lives of our customers.”

The Community Chest fund is open to customers and community groups, supporting projects that help tackle isolation, boost wellbeing and create stronger neighbourhoods.  For more information, visit www.platformhg.com.
