Improved footpaths bring new life to Newtown Green

Community persistence has paid off in Worcester as new and improved footpaths have been officially completed at Newtown Green, enhancing access for local residents and visitors to one of the city’s most cherished green spaces.
The project, long championed by local community group at Newtown Green Project, has transformed previously muddy and inaccessible walkways into clean, user friendly paths. These improvements now enable children to walk safely to school as well as improve access to adjoining wider green spaces.
Jenny Moreton, Secretary at the Newtown Green Community Group said: “We have been championing the improvements for some time and it is wonderful to see it finally delivered. The new paths are already making a real difference to how the community can use and enjoy the space.”
The works were funded through a Section 106 agreement with the footpath works bringing clear benefits to the local community.
Paul Edwards, our Community Engagement Officer said: “We were pleased to work with Worcester City Council to ensure this funding could be redirected to deliver a lasting improvement for residents. This is exactly the kind of positive legacy Section 106 funding is intended to create and we are delighted with the outcome for both residents and customers.”
The improvement works were arranged and delivered by Worcester City Council who oversaw the appointment of contractors and project completion.
The upgraded footpaths are already proving popular with residents, opening up a safe and more welcoming green corridor and between local neighbourhoods.
