Community hub in Arley opens with our support

A brand new community building in Arley has opened thanks to a major fundraising effort by Arley Parish Council, bolstered by a grant from our Community Chest programme.
The parish council applied to our Community Chest, a funding pot for our customers and local charities, clubs and other not-for-profit organisations for any projects directly benefitting our customers; all applications are assessed against specific eligibility criteria by customers who sit on our Customer Voice Panel.
Called The Pavilion, and based at Hilltop Playing Fields, the project has been years in the making, with the pandemic delaying plans. With more than £300,000 raised from a mix of funders – including the Rural Prosperity Fund, Arley and Ansley Big Local and Arley Parish Council – the state of the art facility is now welcoming users.
The building now houses two kitchens – one professional, one available for hire – plus meeting spaces, accessible toilets and flexible community rooms. It is now a vibrant hub for local residents and organisations, with groups including a children’s football team, a goalkeeping school, Aspire and Thrive – which supports young people at risk of exclusion from school – and a community food initiative.
Our funding has contributed towards essential furnishings and digital infrastructure to make the space welcoming and fully functional, from tables and chairs to whiteboards, WiFi and televisions.
Julie Ann Davis, Parish Councillor said: “We’re so excited to be able to bring this facility to the heart of the community. It’s a space where people can come together, whether that’s for a sports club or simply a cuppa and a chat. The support from Platform has helped us create a warm, welcoming and practical space that our residents – including many Platform customers – will benefit from for years to come.”
Other events the Pavilion hosts include a warm hub, walking football, women’s groups, knitting circles and healthy eating classes. It also provides a low cost venue for family events and local meetings, all with level access and plenty of parking.
Bindya Mistry, our Community Engagement Officer said: “This is exactly what our Community Chest is all about, enabling local people to shape places that work for them. We’re thrilled to support Arley Parish Council and know that the Pavilion is a real asset for Platform customers and the wider community.”
