Platform Housing Group has recently celebrated the unsung heroes who live in their communities and make a real difference to others, at their annual Community Heroes Awards.

One of the awards up for grabs was for the best Communities Connected initiative, which was won by Platform colleagues and partners who worked together to hold a fantastic Fun Day at Fairmead Community Centre in Melton, Leicestershire.

Delivered in partnership with local Councillor Siggy Atherton and Melton’s safer communities team, the hugely successful event attracted local children and families who spent time playing football, enjoying carving pumpkins and crafts and much more.

Marion Duffy, Chief Operations Officer at Platform Housing Group said, “Our Communities Connected programme brings together Platform customers, colleagues, communities and partners to deliver a wide range of projects aimed at making a positive difference in the local neighbourhood.”

Each year, Platform pulls together a whole schedule of different Communities Connected events and have already kicked off their 2023 calendar which was launched to coincide with the King’s Coronation.

“We didn’t have a set agenda for the Fairmead Fun Day, it was just come along and have a go. That’s the great thing about our Communities Connected programme – it’s about giving local people the opportunity to get involved.” explains Community Engagement Officer, Samantha Smith who organised the event.

“I went home with a massive smile on my face as it was such an amazing day, and I felt so happy that everyone had a good time, got involved and had fun with their neighbours.”

Platform’s Community Heroes Awards were made possible by the generous sponsorship of the main event sponsors, Travis Perkins and individual award sponsors.

Councillor Siggy Atherton, who was involved in the event said, “It was a pleasure to be part of the event at Fairlead Estate; it was great to see the community coming together and enjoying the facilities provided. Everyone seemed to be having a great time, and I’d like to thank everyone who took part in making the day such a success.”
