A Worcester netball team supporting young people from across the community has been awarded a donation from our Community Chest fund.

Scarletts Netball Team successfully applied for the funding to help provide essential equipment and kit including bibs, drinks bottles, cones, netballs, training tops and teamwear.

The club supports young people from different areas of Worcestershire, helping them build confidence, improve their wellbeing and develop teamwork and social connections through sport.

The funding will support around 60 young people involved with the team, including many from our communities.

Leanne Abbatiello, Coach and Safeguarding Lead at Scarletts Netball Team said: “We are incredibly grateful to Platform Housing Group for this fantastic grant; it’s a massive boost for a community club like ours.  This funding will help us to keep our players fully equipped and actively playing the sport they love without financial barriers holding us back.  It genuinely helps Scarletts sustain an inclusive and active netball community and we can’t thank them enough for investing in our club’s future.”

Tammy Goss, a parent of one of the players at the netball team said: “Netball is about so much more than exercise; it helps young people build confidence, make friendships, improve their mental wellbeing and feel part of something positive within their community.”

Georgi Evans Goodrich, Head Coach and Club Chair at Scarletts Netball Team said: “Being a club for everyone has its challenges – especially financially – but the incredible support we have received from Platform Housing Group’s Community Chest has allowed us to grow our sessions providing more balls, training equipment and bibs for our junior players.  Myself and the rest of the coaching staff are beyond grateful for the donation and the backing of our amazing parents, like Tammy, who are going above and beyond to support our vision at Scarletts to be inclusive, supportive and unstoppable.”

Our Community Chest fund supports projects and organisations that help strengthen communities and improve wellbeing across the areas we serve.

Paul Edwards, our Community Engagement Officer said: “We’re really pleased to support Scarletts Netball Team through our Community Chest funding.  The club is doing fantastic work bringing young people together, encouraging healthy lifestyles and helping build confidence and resilience.

“Community groups and grassroots sports clubs play such an important role in creating positive opportunities for young people and it’s great to able to support initiatives that make a real difference locally.”
