One of Platform’s new Quality Managers has been recognised for his transition from the army to a new career.

Toby Battison, who spent time as a member of the Grenadier Guards working for Her Majesty the Queen, has been recognised in the Role Model of the Year category at the upcoming Ex-Forces in Business Awards.

His 13 year career in the army saw him spend time in Kenya, and Afghanistan, Canada, the Falkland Islands, Denmark, Latvia and Cyprus before a promotion to Lance Corporal.

He then spent time training new recruits and became Sergeant, where he trained one of the first female soldiers who went on to the household division, a big step he’s very proud to have been part of.

He left to join the building sector as part of an armed forces programme with builders David Wilson Homes, where he trained to be an assistant site manager. After his training he wanted to volunteer to give back, so he took other people still on the scheme to his site to gain valuable experience.

Toby has only been with Platform a short time, joining as a manager in their Quality Team which ensures the homes that are provided to them from different developers meet a certain standard before they are handed over to our customers.

Toby said,

“I was quite surprised to make it to the shortlist as I was just doing what I thought was the right thing to do. The more people I’ve told, they’ve told me how hard I’ve worked to go from what I was doing to what I’m doing now. I see it all part of giving back really but it will be great to attend the awards as it’s such a huge event now.”

The Ex Forces In Business Awards event is the world’s largest celebration of veterans in second careers. The ceremony takes place on the 29th June in London. Good luck Toby!
