Above: Colleagues from across Platform join together to learn what makes an effective board member

Earlier this month we launched our “Board Member Introductory Course” in a bid to coach colleagues who have an aspiration in becoming a board member one day in their career journey. While colleagues working directly for Platform are conflicted from being able to join its own board, the course run by Platform’s Governance team looked to give individuals the knowledge and skill set for them to pursue board positions in other organisations, and within other sectors.

Anita Mobberley, Head of Governance and Regulation at Platform, who was instrumental in bringing this course to life said; “We’re really invested in our teams, not just in their career here at Platform, but their career away from us too. For us, it’s been important to support individuals to grow and pursue board positions outside of our group, instilling them with the right knowledge, so they thrive and succeed.”

Colleagues who took part in the two day course, covered topics such as: board member duties, liabilities and skills, financial and regulatory implications, alongside a talk by recruitment company Page who gave delegates an in-depth insight into what can make their CV’s stand out when applying for non-executive board positions.

Colleagues who took part in the course feedback that:
“The course was really insightful and gave a better understanding around what to expect from a board position in the future”.

Alongside this training course we also run a Trainee Board Programme and are invested in the board rooms of the future.
