New site will bring significant contribution to local affordable housing need in Gloucestershire
Work is set to start on a large number of affordable homes for the Tewkesbury area as a crucial phase of the Perrybrook development begins at Ventus Brook.
We will manage the 272 new builds which are being constructed by Lovell Partnerships in conjunction with Tewkesbury Borough Council.
There will be 122 homes for social rent and a further 88 for shared ownership with the remaining 62 available through rent to buy.
We purchased the land in 2021 and – following the planning process – will now start the initial phase of development, with the first homes ready this autumn.
We already manage and maintain more than 100 properties in Tewkesbury and a further 300 in the surrounding areas.
Michael Baggett, our Director of Land and Partnerships said: “We are keen to speed up delivery of affordable housing in the Midlands and getting work started here at Perrybrook is an important step in helping to solve the housing crisis.
“We look forward to welcoming people to these sustainable, warm homes in Tewkesbury; we would like to thank our partners at Lovell as well as the local authority for its work in helping us to continue providing more homes for more people.”
The MP for North Cotswolds, Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, also attended the site visit. He said: “It was very welcome to see progress being made at Perrybrook and to meet with Platform Housing Group to discuss the delivery of affordable homes in this part of Gloucestershire. In rural and semi rural areas like ours. The cost of housing can be a real barrier for local people, particularly younger families and key workers. Developments such as these are essential if we are to ensure communities remain balanced, sustainable and able to meet local need. I look forward to continuing to work with Platform to support the delivery of affordable housing across the constituency.”
Councillor Alex Hegenbarth, Lead Member for Community Housing at Tewkesbury Borough Council said: “It’s great to see Platform’s scheme beginning at Perrybrook. This development will make a real difference to the availability of affordable housing and shows the value of working closely with partners to deliver high quality, sustainable homes for our residents.”
Chantel Cresswell, Regional Head of Partnerships at Lovell said: “Central to our work is the effective delivery of high quality housing for the communities that need it most. Strong partnerships are key to this focus, and our work alongside Platform and Tewkesbury Borough Council at Perrybrook is a clear example of the benefits this collaborative approach brings in practice. We look forward to bringing the plans for this development to life.”
The total cost of the development is £80 million with Homes England grant funding of £19.5 million.
