Colleagues put the kettle on for Macmillan Cancer Support
Colleagues will come together over coffee and cake this month to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Macmillan Coffee Mornings will take place at our Birmingham Business Park office in Solihull and our Central Park office in Worcester on Tuesday 13 October from 10.00am until 2.00pm.
Colleagues are being invited to enjoy a selection of donated sweet and savoury treats, catch up with one another and support a cause chosen by our employees.
Fundraising games will also take place throughout the events, costing £2 to enter, with every penny raised going to Macmillan. Donations can be made in cash or through a dedicated QR code linked directly to our fundraising account.
The events form part of our two year corporate charity partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, which runs from 2026 to 2028.
Chris Pinson Bradley, our Community Engagement Manager and Chair of our Fundraising Committee said: “A coffee morning is such a simple and enjoyable way to bring colleagues together while raising money for an incredibly important cause.
“We are hoping for a fantastic selection of cakes, savoury treats and other homemade contributions from colleagues across both offices. Whether someone bakes, buys a slice of cake, takes part in a game or makes a donation, every contribution will help support Macmillan’s work.
“Cancer effects so many people and our partnership gives colleagues opportunities to come together and do something positive. We hope the coffee mornings will generate plenty of conversation, laughter and generosity.”
Alongside the fundraising, colleagues will help spread some early festive cheer by writing Christmas messages for people affected by cancer.
Macmillan will provide the cards, with volunteers invited to write one message or several. The completed cards will be shared over the Christmas period, offering encouragement and reminding recipients that they are not alone.
Chris continued: “The card writing activity adds a particularly thoughtful element to the day. A short, handwritten message may only take a few minutes to write, but it could help someone feel remembered and supported during what can be a difficult time of the year.
“We would love as many colleagues as possible to get involved, enjoy a cuppa and help us make both the fundraising and the festive messages a real success.”
The coffee morning is the latest activity undertaken as part of our partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support. Colleagues, partners and supporters have already taken part in a challenging two day, 200 mile charity bike ride in support of the organisation earlier on in the year.
Macmillan coffee mornings have brought people together to raise money for those living with cancer since 1990. Events can be held at any time and range from small gatherings to workplace and community fundraisers.
This year alone, seven of our housing schemes – in Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Birmingham, Lincolnshire and Leicestershire - have taken part in Macmillan coffee mornings, raising £2,300; these include Barratt Court, Elizabeth Court, Himbleton House, Clarence Park, Rose Garden, Cripplegate House, Severn House, Henwick House, Welbeck Way, Meadow Court, Copcut Court, Crofton Gardens, Hazeland Court and Brookside Gardens.
Kate McGrory, Relationship Fundraising Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support said: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone at Platform Housing Group for continuing to support Macmillan through its two year corporate charity partnership.
“Coffee mornings are a wonderful way to bring people together and every cake sold, game played and donation made will help us provide practical, emotional and financial support to people living with cancer.
“The Christmas messages are a lovely addition to the events. Knowing that someone is thinking of you can mean so much, particularly during the festive period. We hope colleagues at both offices have a fantastic time and would like to thank everyone who helps make the the events a success.”
Macmillan Cancer Support has been helping people affected by cancer for more than 100 years, providing practical, emotional and financial support from the point of diagnosis and throughout treatment and recovery.
Our colleagues nominate and vote for a corporate charity partner every two years, supporting organisations that align with the values of the business and the communities it serves.
Our colleagues have a proud history of taking fundraising to the next level, skydiving, cycling hundreds of miles, running marathons, hosting craft sales and stepping up to challenges of all kinds in their own time.
Our volunteer Fundraising Committee is at the forefront of organising and supporting fundraising efforts throughout the year.
