Sustainability through Retrofit
As part of our Sustainability Strategy, we’ve been improving the efficiency of customers' homes through a whole-house, fabric-first approach that aims to lower energy bills and improve comfort levels and is crucial in helping to reduce the carbon footprint.
Platform customer Terry and his partner live in a two-bedroom, semi-detached house built in 1959. There is no mains gas to the area, so they relied on a solid fuel back boiler, connected to radiators throughout their home for their heating and hot water.
Their home was part of our programme of retrofit works that included Smart thermostats, external wall insulation, cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, solar PV panels, windows, and air source heat pumps.
Terry said: “At first I was sceptical about the work being carried out at my property, especially the expense of a heat pump. Like everyone, I did my own research and based on what I had read online, I was having doubts”.
“I am so pleased I no longer need to purchase expensive coal, which usually would cost me £22.00 a fortnight for 25kg bag. The new heat pump is so cost-effective and more efficient all year round, which is great”.
“What I really liked about the whole process, was that I was listened to and that I had a voice, and if there was an issue, there was a compromise on both sides and the fact that this house is still my home.”
“Overall, I have no regrets, I am so pleased and delighted with the overall outcome of all the work, which was carried out on my property, including the heat pump,” explains Terry.
